The Parkway Student Ministries are serious about missions! We recognize that a vital part of being a Christian is helping those in need, standing up for justice, letting the oppressed go free, and sharing the peace, hope, and joy that we have in our hearts!
In 2006 we are going to March Mission Madness from March 24-26 and to Bimini, Bahamas to do hurricane relief in June!
Past Mission Opportunities in Summer 2005 *Passport Camp, Wingate: June 19-24...The Parkway Students joined with other youth from across the United States for worship, missions, and fun in Wingate's community! *Mission Trip, Arkansas: July 17-23...Parkway's intergenerational mission trip is in partenership with CBF's Partners of Hope Rural Poverty Initiative in Phillips County, Arkansas. Past Missions Opportunities in 2004 *March Missions Madness, Americus: Parkway Students joined with other youth from the state of Georgia in Americus to paint, do yard work, clean, and help out the community! They also visited Habitat for Humanity's Global Villaige and Kiononia Farms. March Missions Madness is in conjuction with the CBF of GA and lasts for a weekend each March. *Summer Mission Trip to McCaysville: In June of 2004 Parkway had an intergenerational mission trip to Harbor Ministries in McCaysville, GA. Ten students and thirteen adults joined together to build a nursery, paint, clean, and have kid's club for Harbor Ministries, a socially minded church in the Blue Ridge area. *Passport Camp: In June of 2004 the Parkway Students joined with churches from all over the country in Wingate, NC for Passport Camp. Each day students spread out across the community to visit nursing homes, paint, do construction, run camps and kid's clubs, and do lawn work. Passport youth camps are also in conjuction with CBF. *Fall Retreat 2004: Typically our fall retreats don't focus on missions, but since hurricane Ivan tore through we had to quickly change our plans. Rather than heading to the mountains with tents, our students headed to Atlanta with open hearts. During a "Kingdom of God" activity ten students were given 2 hours and $5 each to do something for the Kingdom of God. They chose to help out at "The Center" at Peachtree and Pine, a local homeless shelter. |
